This Scandinavian painted candle box with date of 1799 is dovetailed, bottom is wooden pinned and does show paint loss, comes from a Mohawk Valley home in New York State. Not an American piece, but still a good honest antique. Measures 11 ¾" length, 6 ¾" wide.   (additional photo below)
