Oil on canvas painting showing Roosevelt's Great White Fleet, that sailed out of Hampton Roads, Virginia on December 16, 1907.
Teddy referred to the ships as "white messengers of peace".
The official color of these battleships was slate and white.
This painting has been in a private collection for a number of years and found on the backside of painting was a paper cut out story on Teddy Roosevelt's 15 Messengers of Peace.
The story tells the history behind this fleet along with battleship names, the fleet commander and also shows photo of the fleet steaming into San Francisco Bay , May 6. 1908.
The painting is signed what appears to be as Potts(?)
Painting has been cleaned and reframed.
Framed size is 16" x 13 1/2"
Painting measures 12 ½" x 9 ¾"
